My set of designs for videogame characters, entitled ‘Videogame Minimalism‘, has been featured in the December issue of German game magazine, GEE, under the auspicious headline ‘Essential’. These works, which you can find links to at the top of the right-hand column of this blog, has garnered a lot of attention since I created them, racking up over 14,000 views and being featured on a dozen videogame blogs. Due to such popular demand, I hope to add to the series very soon; watch this space! The full scanned page from GEE magazine is below. Apologies in advance for the low scanner quality. Any German readers care to translate the paragraph for me?

In her (edit: HIS!) picture series “Videogame Minimalism” graphics designer Ashley Browning shows what remains when videogame heroes are reduced to their essential characteristics. Although the portraits consist only of a few elements, the characters are instantly recogniseable. Apart from the abstract Kirby, she (edit: HE!) also drew pictures of Honda from “Street Fighter”, god of war Kratos, a Helghast-soldier from “Killzone”, the Master Chief, and Samus Aran from “Metroid”. “It speaks for the finesse of the original characters, that they are still recogniseable after the reduction,” says Browning. However, that does not work for all of them: “I was asked if I could do Pac-Man. But he is already so minimal, that he would have turned out as a glowing yellow disc.” Browning’s designs are also available as posters and T-shirts.
Thank you very much Julia. All as I originally quoted it seems. Shame they got my gender wrong though :S
